Forest fire flight restriction

You may not fly below 3,000 ft AGL over a forest fire, or within 5 NM of one (CAR 601.15). The floor is AGL, and the 5 NM ring is measured from the fire area.

Exception: the rule does not apply to a person operating at the request of, or with the authorization of, the appropriate fire control authority to help its operations (CAR 601.17). Air traffic control clearances and radio calls do not exempt you; only fire-control authorization does.

Trap: it is 3,000 ft AGL and 5 NM, not 1,000 ft / 1 NM. Both numbers must be right.
